Health and Safety​​

Consider risk minimization of your specific site. 

  • -Handle tools and soils with gloves. 
  • -Wear a mask for mulch, soil transfer, ensure not inhaling soil mould spores, etc.  
  • -Wear Ear plugs. Care for ears when use loud equipment.
  • -Wear eye protection when using powertools/equipment and sunglasses to prevent sun damage. 
  • -Wear hats and sunscreen for sun protection. (Note: some medicines make people more susceptible to sunburn.)
  • -Drink water frequently on hot days to prevent dehydration. 
  • -Check gloves, boots, etc for spiders/insects before putting on. 
  • -Wash tools after use to prevent spread of disease and storing correctly to prevent injury. 
  • -Being aware of stinging plants or insects. 
  • -Only eat plants you know are edible and never eat seeds purchased for planting.
  • -Lift heavy items correctly. Bend at knees, not the back.
  • -Wash hands after gardening and before eating.
  • -Ensure tools and hoses are not a danger or tripping hazard for co-workers and public.
  • -Wear covered shoes.
